Rhode Island State Inspection Requirements
Every vehicle in RI requires either a safety inspection or a safety and emissions inspection. Cars and light duty trucks must pass both safety & emissions.
Heavy duty trucks (over 8,500lbs) and motorcycles only require a safety inspection. A valid Rhode Island registration is required for all inspections.
If your Registration is expired and cannot be renewed until the vehicle is inspected, Sal’s can complete an alternate inspection for you.
All safety components such as brakes and tires must be up to state regulation.
A check engine light on will automatically fail any car or light duty truck inspection.
